TWELVE SHORT STORIES FOR ADULT LANGUAGE LEARNERS OF EFL
This project was done as a mid term collaborative project while taking the course DE Methods II: Project-Based Learning.
Our goal is to provide teachers all over the world with reading, writing, listening, and speaking tasks for short stories.
Three teachers in three different countries worked together to choose short stories and create activities.

ELEMENTARY
STORY 1
Once, when a Lion was asleep, a little Mouse began running up and down upon him. The Lion soon woke up, and put his huge paw upon him, and opened his big jaws to eat him.
STORY 2
It is the story of a fox who covets some grapes, but cannot reach them. The animal then claims the fruits are not ripe, yet.
STORY 3
A fantastic account on how the leopard came to have spots.
INTERMEDIATE
STORY 4
In this detective story, Holmes receives two odd letters making reference to vampires. Mr. Robert Ferguson, who visits Holmes the next morning, is convinced that his wife has been sucking their baby son's blood. The nurse has caught her doing it a couple of times, but Mrs. Ferguson has bribed her to keep quiet. Wikipedia
STORY 5
It tells the story of a bird (a swallow) who lands on the statue that houses the soul of a dead prince who is unhappy with the world he sees around him.
STORY 6
It tells the story of Van Cheele, a self-proclaimed naturalist, who one day meets a wild-looking boy in the woods neighboring his house. Intrigued by the boy's uncanny behavior, he decides to take the boy home.
UPPER INTERMEDIATE
STORY 7
"The Landlady" by Roald Dahl is about a handsome seventeen-year-old boy Billy Weaver, who after a long business trip arrives in Bath where by a strong reason he "is forced" to stay in a cozy "BED & BREAKFAST" owned by a middle-aged extremely nice lady.
STORY 8
“Fresh Fish” by Christopher Chin is a story about a thirteen-year old boy of Chinese descendant whose family is gathered to celebrate Chinese New Year in Chinatown, New York. As fish is the main meal, Chris offers himself to go to the fish stand on Mott St. and buy some on his own.
STORY 9
The rocking horse winner is a story primarily focusing on the desperate urge of a young boy, Paul to be "lucky" having understood the meaning of the word "luck" in a different and rather a corrupted light. Paul constantly and perpetually hears repetitive sounds of whispering in the walls of his house as "There must be more money. There must be more money".
ADVANCED
STORY 10
A physician comes to live with her sister and brother-in-law while setting up practice in their town. She observes the relationship between the two and determines to practice her art, albeit a bit deceitfully, to remedy what she sees as unhealthy and unhappy between the elderly married couple. The story unravels the physician's psycho-social methods and follows their implementation to an apparently successful outcome.
STORY 11
George Merrowdene has just insured his life in favour of his wife, but is she everything she seems? Inspector Evans is pretty sure she isn't.
STORY 12
A satirical story of a drunkard barber tormented by the possibility of having committed a crime, and a city major whose nose has left his face and developed a life of its own. It is the story of this man desperately looking to get his nose where it belongs.
